In the context of an Anvil! cluster, a 'subnode' is one of two physical machines that peer to create a fully redundant host for one or more (virtual) servers in an Anvil! cluster.

The pair of subnodes host all resources needed to host the servers, including synchronously replicated storage using DRBD.
